Richmond’s Monument Avenue
My dog, Sadie, and I ended our day at the Robert E. Lee memorial on Richmond’s Monument Avenue. We walked the avenue a bit. It was dusk. The sky had just cleared following a storm. The old general looked so stoic astride his horse, Traveler, face set to the south. His monument is an anomaly. The other generals on the avenue face north. Southerners can be subtle. It’s a reminder: He’s the only one who surrendered.
